London is one of the greatest cities in the world. For starters it is a global economic centre. People from all over the world are fighting their way in to find a job, a flat, and a life in London. It has its finger on the cultural pulse, with fabulous theatre, art, music, restaurants, bars and clubs on every corner. Being in the centre of Europe it is easy to travel in and out of and as a result is flooded with tourists and international jetsetters. So when I say it is important to look smart in this city, I don't mean it to be superficial or vain. Londoners take their fashion very seriously, whether they're East London hipsters, North London punks, or West London toffs, they're sporting their look to the nines.

The central club look:

Organizing a night out at Cuckoo's or Maddox? Maybe going for drinks at Momo's beforehand? If that's the case you're going to want to look classically cool. Don't go too overboard with your new studded leather jacket and 16-hole Converse, but don't go the other way either. No one likes partying with a guy in a three-piece suit. No, for these types of nights out guys should sport cool jeans, a graphic tee, or dress shirt (no tie), an open sports jacket and some killer shoes.

The after work Friday drinks look:

Depending on where you work this look will differ massively. Graphic designers working in Nottinghill will be sporting TopMan's latest and probably going for drinks at some hipster/chic bar on Portobello Road. Bankers from the city will probably be fighting for the bartender's attention at some meatmarket around Canary Wharf in the suit they've been wearing since 6 a.m. when they got to the office. By the end of the night though, it is guaranteed that their jacket and tie will be off, their top button undone and their hair swept back with sweat- everyone needs to unwind after all.

The midweek theatre and dinner look:

With so much to do culturally in London, it is not uncommon for friends to organize midweek dinner and theatre nights. In these instances most people will be coming from work and so probably wear whatever they've had on all day. If you have the privilege of being self-employed or are permitted to wear jeans and sneakers to work, you might want to step it up on these days. Instead of a t-shirt throw on a dress shirt, a jacket, and maybe a nice shiny pair of cufflinks for a complete, polished look.

No matter where you're going in London, go in style.
